Today I joined the masses of resolution goers at the gym. It was BUSY! I remembered an episode on some tv-show-candid-camera-type, where a girl gets on the elliptical machine, and starts going really fast and talking to an unknown girl on her right, telling her “I’m beating you, I’m going faster, look at me go! Weeee” as the other girl looked on with an expression of “you freak!” I was thinking that because, they all seemed to be doing that to me, (or I thought) as I looked on. Everyone was going as fast they could, no leisurely stroll, oh-no-sir…they were goin’, as if the wheat grass shots and protein shakes were half price and they were trying to make it to the sale. And to the rhythm of Nora Jones (that’s right, slow) I looked on.
Getting to the gym more often was only one of my resolutions for 2010. On New Years Eve I decided I would start today instead of Jan. 1. Why? You ask. Well, when Jan 1 falls on a Friday it lends itself to be the first day of resolution failure. There will be drinking, there will be eating, It just doesn’t feel like the “start” of anything, it feels more like “let’s extend the December month by 3 days and party some more.”
Starting on Jan 4 also helps my procrastination efforts. I am the definition of a procrastinator, and I need to live up to that name. So today I start. I went to the gym, I gave up the see-food diet (I see it, I eat it). Not bad, I started with two of my resolutions, the rest can wait until tomorrow or the day after…unless of course I forget what they are.

Hey I think we’re alike on this one – if January doesn’t go great, then we’ll wait for a month that starts on a Monday. Nothing like starting a diet on the first of a month on a Monday. So don’t give up if Jan 4 wasn’t perfect, there are many starting dates! I miss you!
